We are on an ambitious improvement and transformation journey and are looking for a values-led, collaborative Director of Finance who sees financial leadership as a strategic enabler of social, economic and organisational success and understands the importance of having a strong enabling/business partnering function to support the wider business needs of the Council.

Statutory responsibilities:

• Fulfil the statutory role of Section 151 Officer under the Local Government Act 1972

• Ensure the proper administration of the Council’s financial affairs in line with legal, professional and ethical standards

Role purpose:

As a member of the Corporate Management Team (CMT), you will play a central role in shaping and delivering the Council’s priorities. You will provide inclusive, visible leadership across key enabling services and act as the Council’s Section 151 Officer, ensuring strong governance, financial resilience and ethical stewardship.

This role goes beyond traditional financial control. You will enable the organisation to thrive by:

Working closely with the Chief Executive, elected members and CMT colleagues, you will contribute corporately to recovery, improvement and transformation, ensuring that resources, people and systems are aligned to deliver outcomes for residents.
