The Vacancy

Help forge our future to achieve our ambition

DIRECTOR OF

PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Salary: £105,392 per annum*

Strong partnership working with the local National Health Service (NHS) is essential and the council is working with Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to ensure the effective delivery of Dudley's innovative integrated Multi-Speciality Community Provider (MCP). Dudley is ahead of the curve nationally in this area and this new model of care will join up NHS, public health, social care and community support around the patient.

Getting the right person in to lead on designing and delivering activities to promote better health and wellbeing and getting the most out of our talented and committed workforce to drive further improvements through active partnership working to benefit local residents and businesses alike, is vital.

We will only accept the very best applications for this crucial role – someone who sees themselves as a leader in local government to ensure Dudley achieves all of its local and regional aims and punches its weight at a national level. If that is you, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The health and wellbeing of people living and working in the borough is a matter of paramount importance, which is why we are keen to see our health and wellbeing agenda grow from strength to strength to develop resilient communities with improved health outcomes and higher wellbeing.

In Dudley, we are proud to be nationally recognised for leadership in community-centred public health, and for our award winning trading standards team that is leading the way in protecting and improving community health and wellbeing.

Dudley’s Health and Wellbeing strategy focuses on three priorities that are fundamental to poor health and demand for services in Dudley: overweight and obesity, poverty and loneliness & social isolation. To ensure we deliver on these priorities the council and partners are committed to focus on prevention, joining up services and developing a new relationship with communities.

Public health and wellbeing

Protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of residents is a priority for the council.  We have embedded work to improve health and reduce health inequalities right across our functions and directorates. Our approach to public health is summarised as a case study in a public health transformation report celebrating five years of public health in local government.

Our public health and wellbeing directorate includes public health and environmental health and trading standards. The directorate also leads the corporate community development and emergency planning and resilience functions. A structure chart is available via the link below. We are proud to be nationally recognised as leaders in community-centred public health, and of our award winning trading standards team that is leading the way in using local government regulatory powers to protect and improve community health and wellbeing.

Public health staff are also embedded in the Council’s Integrated Commissioning Hub, which includes health and wellbeing commissioners, public health intelligence and knowledge services.

As such, we have defined three priorities that will underpin all of our activity over the next five years, these are:
